On this home page we'll introduce ourselves and explain what SOFA stands for, who we represent, and what we are trying to accomplish.  Our website is in its infancy.  We will continue to build this site and as a result the information you find here will be changing and updated almost daily.  Patience, Grasshopper.

Representing the interests of the commercial fishing industry is a significant challenge.  It is not easy to convince the public that the people who make their living in an environmentally sensitive  industry actually have the interests of all Americans and the marine environment at heart.  This website is a great way to introduce ourselves and educate visitors on the issues faced here on the docks and offshore as well as in the stores and markets around the country.

We hope the information you find on this site will encourage you to dig deeper into the problems faced by our industry and the way our government is addressing those problems.  We welcome your visits and look forward to hearing from you.  If you have any questions, comments or need further information, please don't hesitate to visit our Contact Us page.

  • SOFA promotes fresh, high quality, domestic fish.

  • SOFA works hard to enhance the image of the American fisherman.

  • SOFA works together with other groups and many agencies, both state and federal, to keep the Gulf of Mexico clean and environmentally secure.

SOFA CONTINUES TO WORK

Anyone interested in Gulf of Mexico fishing should carefully read this letter to Governor Charlie Crist in Tallahassee.

SITE NEWS

Captain's Designs web designers have agreed to take over the design and maintenance of the S.O.F.A. site, pro bono. We are currently doing a complete redesign of the site which we hope will be ready soon, although the fact that the guy who does the design work for Captain's Designs (that would be me) is a commercial fisherman and is likely offshore trying to keep the wolf from the door might slow things down just a bit. We ask for just a bit of patience and promise you the new site will look great and have a lot of new features added to all of the present content as well as a lot of new multimedia content and other features to both keep you entertained and, most importantly, keep you up to date on what is going on in our fishery.

Check back soon, it won't be long and we'll have the brand new look and lots of new content for you. Thanks for your patience in the meantime. If we've accidentally disabled some feature you need of the current site while making the move to the new servers, send me an email at mike@captainsdesigns and I'll get it back up for you as soon as possible.
